Lansing, Michigan and Phoenix, Arizona: June 16, 2003: Capitol Bancorp Limited announced it will begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CBC on June 24, 2003. Capitol Bancorp Limited has traded on the Nasdaq since 1989 under the symbol CBCL.

"This transition represents a significant milestone for our company and is part of our growth strategy," said Joseph D. Reid, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capitol Bancorp Limited. "We are confident our move to the New York Stock Exchange will increase market awareness as well as offer our shareholders an optimal trading environment," he said.

Reid and founding members of Capitol Bancorp Limited's board of directors will celebrate the move to the New York Stock Exchange by ringing the Opening BellTM to open trading at 9:30 a.m. EDT on June 24.
