LANSING, Mich. and PHOENIX, Ariz.: July 20, 2004: David D. Fortune has been appointed Chief Credit Officer for Capitol Bancorp Limited, a community bank development company. In this newly-created role, Fortune will oversee the corporation's loan portfolio and manage its credit policies, procedures and methodology. He will report to Capitol's Chairman and CEO, Joseph D. Reid.
Fortune previously was senior vice president of credit administration for Capitol Bancorp's Western Regions. From 1998 to 2003, he was executive vice president and chief credit officer of Mesa Bank, a Capitol Bancorp affiliate bank in Mesa, Ariz., while simultaneously managing several large-scale projects for the corporation.
A 23-year veteran of the financial services industry, Fortune has extensive experience in commercial lending and credit oversight. He gained front-line commercial banking experience during his time with First Interstate Bank (now Wells Fargo) and Bank One. He also worked in various capacities with Heller Financial, a commercial finance company acquired by GE in 2001.
A graduate of California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., Fortune has a bachelor's degree in accounting.
