LANSING, Mich., and PHOENIX, Ariz.: July 23, 2004: Bruce D. Jones, a longtime North Carolina banker, has joined Capitol Bancorp Limited (NYSE:CBC), a $3 billion community bank development company with 31 banks across the country, as President of the Southeast Region. In this role, Jones will guide Capitol's community bank development initiatives throughout an 11-state region.
"We have embarked on an aggressive growth campaign and have identified many development opportunities in this part of the country," said Joseph D. Reid, Chairman and CEO of Capitol Bancorp. "Bruce's extensive banking background and impressive record of community involvement make him the right candidate for this newly created position."
Jones has been with Rowan Bank for 15 years, most recently as Chairman, president and CEO. In this capacity he was responsible for strategic planning, asset/liability management, new product development, business development and marketing. A native North Carolinan, Jones started his career in financial services more than 26 years ago with First Savings and Loan in Hickory, North Carolina. Prior to joining Rowan Bank, he was with Southeastern Savings Bank for eight years where he served in various positions on both the retail and commercial lending side of the bank.
"This new assignment offers me the opportunity to utilize my banking experience while continuing to support my belief that community banking is about much more than offering financial services," said Jones. "A critical component in successful community banking is being involved with community efforts and initiatives that help a community, its businesses and residents, prosper."
Jones community involvement ranges from serving as Chairman of the Rowan County Economic Development Commission to spear-heading capital campaigns for the Rowan Historical Society and the Chamber's Focus Forward initiative, to service on the Regional Medical Center board and various economic development groups. He has a long history of giving his time and knowledge to the community from involvement with the YMCA, the public library and the Rowan-Salisbury School Board.
Jones earned a B.S. in Business Administration with emphasis on banking and finance from Appalachian State University.
