LANSING, Mich., and PHOENIX, Ariz: Nov. 08, 2005: Kenneth I. Myers has joined Capitol Bancorp (NYSE:CBC), a $3.4 billion community bank development company, as Director of Risk Management. In this position, Myers will oversee the Corporation's audit, loan review and compliance functions. Myers succeeds Bruce Thomas, president of Capitol Bancorp's Eastern Regions, whose role is expanding as the Corporation adds new banks to its network.

Myers joins Capitol Bancorp after a 32-year career with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). Most recently he was assistant deputy Comptroller of the Currency for a region that includes Michigan's Lower Peninsula, northeastern Indiana and northwestern Ohio.

"With our unique business model, we provide risk oversight and management for nearly 40 individually chartered community banks located across the country," said Joseph D. Reid, Capitol Bancorp's chairman and CEO. "Ken's extensive regulatory background, experience and familiarity with Capitol Bancorp have equipped him to take on this challenging position." In addition to his oversight responsibilities, Myers will be responsible for identifying systemic risks and keeping Capitol's management team and board of directors apprised of issues facing the industry.

During his years at the OCC, Myers rose from assistant national bank examiner in Ohio to assistant deputy comptroller in Detroit. Other assignments while with the OCC include serving as an examiner in Indiana, special projects analyst and team leader in Chicago, field manager in Columbus and Detroit, and field office director in Oklahoma City and Dallas.

Myers was the first regulator to receive the Oklahoma Bankers Association Chairman's Award, which recognizes individuals for significant contributions to the state's banking industry.

A graduate of Tiffin University with a bachelor's degree in commercial sciences, Myers also completed two years at the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He graduated from the OCC's Director Candidate Program, the Federal Executive Institute in Virginia and the Cannon Fiduciary & Investment Risk Management School at Notre Dame University. Myers was certified as a national bank examiner in 1978 and passed the Certified Fiduciary and Investment Risk Specialist examination in July, 2005.
